Atherstone Mens 1sts signed off their 22-23 season with an emphatic victory against Sikh Union Nottingham. The side has already been crowned League Champions and they were looking to complete their season on a positive note. They didn't let their spectators down as Lloyd Crowley's side scored five goals in the opening five minutes, including the fastest goal of the season after only 40 seconds by Matt Hilton. Sikh Union never gave up though and scored two great goals of their own and always looked dangerous on the counter attack and William Murphy was called upon to make a number of timely saves in the early part of the game
However the Adders were just too strong for them as they went on to score at regular intervals. Will Currie notched up yet another hat trick, Josh Wagg and Cameron Hobbs both grabbed two goals, and there was even an opportunity for Arran Hall to get on the scoresheet for the first time this season.
The side completed their 22 game season with 19 victories and only one defeat, as they finished 5 points ahead of their nearest rivals. In the process they managed to notch up 138 league goals at an average of just over 6 goals a game.
Next season will see them in Division 2 which will stretch the team to its limit - but after some of the great performances this season who knows what they can achieve?
