The Adders lost their unbeaten run, which stretched back to the first game of the season, when they came up against a strong Beeston opposition. Beeston were placed second in the league and were 9 points behind the Adders at the start of the game, so desperately needed to win to stand any chance of winning the league.
The Adders knew that a victory or draw would secure them the league title for the fourth successive season and they were keen to wrap up the league title with four games left to play.
The game started with both sides searching for the elusive opening goal. The Adders looked the most likely to score but once again the opposition goalie stood in their way. He pulled off a series of smart saves including a reflex save from Josh Wagg that even astounded him!
The home side then started to gain an upper hand but Will Murphy, in the Adders goal, had little to do as the defence held firm. However two quick goals in the 23rd and 26th minute by the home team gave them the upper hand as the half time whistle sounded.
The second half was a re-run of the first half but with the Adders working even harder to get back into the game and Beeston playing controlled hockey. The Adders remained the better side despite being a man down for 5 minutes when coach, Martin Webb was handed a mysterious yellow card.
The Adders were awarded a penalty and a chance to get back into the game in the 55th minute when a Beeston defender deliberately kicked the ball as it was heading for goal. Lloyd Crowley stepped up to take the resultant stroke which was excellently saved by the Beeston keeper.
The Adders did get back into the game in the 65th minute though despite the penalty miss, when Cameron Hobbs rounded off a superb performance with a rocket of a strike into the top of the net, that the home goalie never saw until he was picking the ball out of the net.
This goal set up a frantic last five minutes as the Adders sought the equaliser and pressed hard. Beeston though had the last word when, with two minutes to go and the Adders defence stretched to the limit, they struck a third goal and sealed the game.
The loss came as great blow to the side, but it also meant that they have gained promotion alongside Beeston. Now they just need to win one of their last three games to secure the league title.
