Last week Ellen Simmons was presented with the prestigious Ruby Chamber’s Young Person’s Sports Award by the newly elected Mayor of Atherstone Councillor Jacky Chambers at a civic reception held at The Red Lion Hotel in Atherstone. This award is presented to a young person who embodies the spirit of determination, persistence and sporting achievement.

Ellen has been a member of Atherstone Adders Hockey Club since September 2017 when she played and trained for the U10s. She has moved up the ranks of the club playing for U12s, U14s, Badgers and then the ladies squads starting in the Ladies 3rd team and is now a regular player in the Ladies 1st team. She was noticed by one of the Warwickshire County coaches whilst playing in an age specific game and was invited to join the Warwickshire squad and played county hockey for two seasons.

She has volunteered as a Junior Leader working alongside the Senior coaches for both the U8 squad and the Badgers at our junior session held at TQEA on a Wednesday evening.
