3rd place tournament success for Midlands Ladies O35 team

The Adders were delighted to see Emma Snowdon selected for the Midlands O35s Ladies squad which participated in the recent two day Masters O35s Area Hockey Tournament.

A brilliant performance from the team, winning all four preliminary matches saw the Midlands Masters team sail through to the final rounds. Sadly foiled by the North West in the semi-final match, the Midlands team went on to take the tournament third place after beating London on penalty flicks.

Congratulations to all players from across our region who contributed to a great result for the Midlands Masters team and brilliant job Emma for scoring three out of the overall 13 goals scored across the tournament.

Ladies Masters O35s Area Hockey Tournament 2022
Hosts: Bedford Hockey Club
14th & 15th May 2022

After having sized up their opposition, (London) who had comfortably won their first fixture against (West) they knew exactly what they were up against….the question is, did everyone else?

It was the perfect start for the Midlands as they sealed their first victory 2 -1; seeing goals come from Laura Price and Emma Snowdon.

2-1 seemed to be the winning numbers as they later took all 3 points from (West) again, seeing Emma Snowdon on the score sheet, along with a corking match winning goal from Ellie Brooks.

After ending the previous day on a high, Sunday was all about aiming for the final.

The first fixture of the day saw the Midlands face North West (who went on to win the tournament) It was quite literally a fight to the end whistle which ended a 2-2 draw seeing Captain Alex Fillmore throw herself on the line to score her first of the tournament, and later on a flick from Laura Price.

The match went to penalty flicks to determine the winner and unfortunately for the Midlands it wasn’t meant to be, with North West coming out on top - with a narrow 3-2 victory.

Although a little disappointed this certainly wasn’t the end of the line for the Midlands team who were determined to not go home empty handed - the fight was on for 3rd place and it was a fixture against their debut team London.

It was a game that seemed very end to end, and neither team left anything to chance. However, it seemed a day for draws, as the final whistle went; Midlands 1 London 1.

Again, the result was to be determined by penalty flicks and the Midlands couldn’t have done it in better style, seeing Laura Cave, Amy Miller, Sharon Muddeman and Laura Price all sink their goals into the back of the net. Not only did all of the attempts go in; the fantastic Bex Howitt who played in goal, made a number of great saves to seal the deal even further.

The first of many successful tournaments to come for Midlands O35s - already buzzing for the next.

The Midlands squad thanked Kerry Luckett for coaching and managing the team, and to Cheryl McCulloch for squad management.
