Introducing our Safeguarding Officer for 2023-24

Dear Atherstone Hockey Club members,

I am delighted to introduce myself as the newly appointed Safeguarding Officer for Atherstone Hockey Club. With a long-standing history within this club, spanning over six years of playing and coaching both juniors and badgers, I am truly honored to take on this vital role in ensuring the well-being of our young members.

As the Safeguarding Officer, my primary goal is to foster a child and youth-centered attitude and environment within our club. I serve as the crucial link between our young athletes and the adult members of our community, facilitating open communication and a safe space for everyone involved.

My responsibilities extend to the implementation and promotion of the relevant Child Welfare and Protection Codes, as well as ensuring strict adherence to England Hockey guidelines for good practice. These guidelines are not just policies on paper; they are the cornerstones of a safe and enjoyable environment where all individuals, both young and adult, can actively participate, derive joy, and benefit from the sport of hockey.

Additionally, I oversee the crucial implementation of the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) within our club. This initiative plays a pivotal role in helping us make sound recruitment decisions for coaches, umpires, and volunteers whose roles involve contact with young people and vulnerable adults. By doing so, we further enhance the safety and security of our club's members.

I want to emphasize that your concerns and issues are always treated with the utmost confidentiality. You can reach out to me through email at safeguarding@addershockey.com, via phone at 07765621633, or in person. Your well-being and safety are of paramount importance to me, and I am here to listen, support, and ensure that Atherstone Hockey Club remains a secure and welcoming place for all.

In closing, I look forward to working closely with all of you to maintain the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection within our beloved club. Together, we can create a safe and enjoyable environment where everyone can thrive in the world of hockey.

Yours in Hockey,

Yvonne Davies
Safeguarding Officer
Atherstone Hockey Club
