Atherstone Mens 2nds 5 v 0 Ashby 2nds

Two games played, 10 goals smacked in and not one goal conceded. The 2nds have their mojo and are playing brilliantly. They have a formula now that works perfectly: (Read on to find out just what that is!)

Put Luke Jones in goal and let him stare the ball out of the goal. Engage the WALL in front of Luke. Nothing gets past Ciaran, Jaz, Ranj and Jonners. Throw Negus into the WALL mix to make the opposition think they have a chance. Place the 3 Musketeers of Christian, Graeme and Cameron Hobbs in midfield. Chuck in a talented dwarf, always have a talented dwarf - Ben Matthews. Put Jalfrezi Currie, Avatar Ady and the Lancaster Bomber up front – the Adders very own Marvel action heroes.

To give it all an air of gravitas, have a portly Gentleman up front. Don’t make him too talented and don’t worry about overdoing the portliness. Ant is the portly Angel at the top of our talent Christmas tree. The Adders were ruthless in their efficiency and carved up Ashby to go 3 nil up by half time, despite Negus excelling himself at passing back to the opposition and passing off the side-line.

To be fair he has been coached to do this in the 3 on 1 training exercise on Wednesday nights. He has to pass back to the lead forward and it always works because in training not one forward has got past him. And so it proved again on Saturday! In the second half the Ashby geriatric section started to get a bit feisty as they were thwarted at every level on the pitch.

It didn’t help that Negus thought it would be a good time to enter into some gentle bantaaar with the Ashby old boys. However his hilarious one liners were not received well and the mature Ashby guys chose to collect some green and yellow cards rather than suffer the verbal gamesmanship Negus was handing out.

As a result the very talented Ashby youngsters were left stranded and our kids pounced on them and finished them off. We can’t remember how the goals were scored but Peter Lancaster got another 2 (I think that is four games in a row now that Peter has got two goals in each game), Jaz got one from a short corner, Cameron Hobbs got another and Ady raced past their defence to get another.

It was a brilliant team performance. The forwards and midfield were ruthless and clinical and the defence was impenetrable. Jazz and Ranj were awesome. Jonners even raced down 4 short corners in a row.

Christian was quite rightly pleased with the performance of the last league game before Christmas – 3rd place in the league. Merry Christmas boys.

Player of the Match: Samson Ranj Mawee
