2. 2018-19 SEASON

Probably the best season in the Club's history. The Mens Summer League campaign of 2018 superbly captained by Lloyd Crowley resulted in the side being crowned as League Champions for the second year on the run. The playoff finals, against teams from Olton, Stourport and Cannock was an amazing experience. The team finished third with only one defeat. The Mens 1sts League team gained back-to-back promotions for the first time in the Clubs history and also went through the entire season without losing a League match. They had the League’s top goal scorer in Captain, Martin Webb and also had five other players in the League’s top 20 goal scorers. The side recruited players from Nuneaton and Rugby but the highlight was the array of young, home grown talent in the side. Well done to all the Adders coaches at all levels for developing some great talent.

The Mens team entered the EH Knockout Cup for the first time and battled their way through to the final at Lee Valley picking up some superb results on the way. The highlight was probably the semi-final against Southampton, which was held at TQEA. The Adders support was brilliant and certainly spurred the side on to victory against tough opposition. The Final at Lee Valley was a real Adders affair as over 100 supporters and players took over the stadium following the GB and Spain Mens International match. Fortunately, the team decided to pick this match to under-perform for the first time this season and Notts Uni ran out deserved winners. To round the season off following all of their amazing achievements, the team was shortlisted for the England Hockey ‘Team of the Year’ at the EH Annual Awards Night, which was held in Leicester. Unfortunately, they did not win the Award but it was great to see the Adders name flashing up on the big screens in the presence of the good and great of England Hockey.

The Mens 2nds finished third in the league, scored 101 goals throughout the season, finished behind the two 1st Teams in the league “best of the rest”. Throughout the 2018-19 season Adders Mens 2nd team built on the success of the previous years and looked to strengthen the squad with a raft of youngsters moving through the squads.

The Mens 3s enjoyed a positive year in the newly re-organised Midland Men’s open Hockey League. Losing the majority of our earlier games and winning the majority of the return fixtures provided for an entertaining season, whilst also offering an insight as to what the 3rds might achieve. Most crucially, the team managed to blend a mix of youth and experience to create positive hockey opportunities on a Saturday. The Badgers teams continue to provide an excellent grounding for Senior hockey, so much so that a Mens 4s is a viable option for next season. Congratulations and thanks to all involved in supporting Adders hockey!

The Ladies 1sts had their highest finish in the club’s history – 5th in Warwickshire Division 1. Just missing our pre-season aim of finishing 4th. Various injuries, travels and pregnancy have meant that we have often travelled with a squad of just 11/12 making this year’s achievements one to be proud of.

The Ladies 3s season was one of consolidation. They progressed from last year in that we consistently fielded full teams for all 22 fixtures, A number of players supported the higher teams when required, with one or two making the transition into Ladies 2s by the end of the season.
