Atherstone Ladies 1sts v Olton 3rds

On a windy Saturday morning Atherstone faced a young Olton team in their last game before Christmas. After a draw the previous week, a much needed 3 points would do nicely before the break.

Adders started evenly matched with Olton however, Olton began to dominate the game, beating the Adders players to the ball. A miscommunication from the Adders allowed Olton to score the first goal leading into half time.

In the second half, play was end to end with Olton having their fair share of attacking play. This was no match for captain Alice Burridge who marked their star player out of the game with some powerful tackles.

The Adders took their chance to draw with a free hit into the D allowing Kate Sinnot to sneak a goal, bringing the Adders level with Olton. A penalty corner was then won by the Adders and Lucy Dormand took a straight strike which bounced off each post before going in the goal allowing the Adders to take the lead for the first time in the game. With fire in their bellies, Adders came back fighting with some excellent attacking play from man of the match Alex Banks, and relentless work from co- MOM Georgia Ellis.

Eventually, the ball found its way to Emma Snowdon who amazingly dribbled passed three Olton players to find herself shooting from the back line, finding the tightest angle to put the Adders comfortably ahead of the Olton side.

With tiring legs and questionable decisions, Atherstone fought on but Olton came back stronger and with organised play and a lack of concentration from the Adders, they managed to use their goal scoring opportunities and take three more goals bringing the final score to 4-3 to Olton.

A disappointing result for Atherstone who will no doubt come back stronger after a much needed rest. Merry Christmas!
