Atherstone Adders 1st X1 0 Daventry 2

This was a game between two teams at either end of the table, Daventry at the top and Atherstone in the bottom four, which turned out to be a very evenly contested match.

That could have gone either way. Both teams came to play hockey, but it was Daventry who became frustrated with the Adders game plan and changed tactics to a more physical approach as the game wore on. The visitors’ adapted style paid off when they opened the scoring just before halftime when a well executed shot swerved past Steve Labram in the Adders goal and into the roof of the net.

The second half was similar to the first with the Adders relying on counter attacks and Daventry working hard to frustrate the hard working home side. However the game was effectively over for the Adders when stalwart Ian Bennett was rushed off to hospital was a snapped Achilles tendon and Justin Hadley tore his knee ligament which left the home side with 10 players. Daventry took full advantage of the Adders weakened defence and started to run riot down their left flank. One attack saw the Daventry sweeper drifting past several Adders players to set up the visitors centre forward with a simple tap-in goal to seal the game.
