Atherstone Adders Ladies 0 Edgbaston Ladies 3rds 5Atherstone Adders Ladies played their best game of the season against a strong, well-drilled Edgbaston team despite losing 5 goals to 0. The Adders previous encounter with them had seen the Ladies finish on the wrong end of a 13-0 scoreline.
Luck was obviously on with the Ladies as for the first time this season they had 13 players available. Despite a frozen pitch and minus temperatures the Ladies made a great start with Lucy Aldridge dominating the midfield and making some impressive attacks on the Edgbaston goalie. However, the Ladies could not find a breakthrough. A new defensive line up of Amy Parkinson, Jill Thomas, Sally Oldham and Fiona Jackson worked well together but unfortunately the Adders were 4 nil down at half time. A key moment in the match was when the home side were awarded a penalty to level the scores. However, the shot was missed and Edgbaston struck back with two quick goals to effectively kill off any chance of an Adders comeback. The half time team talk paid dividends as the Ladies only conceded one goal in the second half. Rachel Taylor, Holly Hall and Storm Strugnell worked hard up front but were not able to score any goals. Let’s hope the Ladies can work on all the positives encountered in this game in the remaining games of the season. |
